General Tso Sauce
A lighter sweet-savoury sauce with soy, rice vinegar, sesame, garlic, ginger, chili, and a light glossy finish.
Ingredients
- ½ cup low-sodium chicken or vegetable broth
- 2 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- Zero-kcal sweetener, to taste, approximately 2 tbsp sugar equivalent
- 1 tsp hoisin sauce, optional but highly recommended for authenticity
- 1 tsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp ginger powder
- ½ tsp chili flakes or chili paste, optional
- 1 tsp cornstarch, for light gloss
Method
- Whisk all ingredients together while cold.
- Transfer to a small pot over medium heat.
- Simmer for 2 to 3 minutes, whisking often, until slightly thick and shiny.
