Tonkatsu Sauce
A lighter, smooth tonkatsu-style sauce with sweet, tangy, savoury depth and no added sugar.
Ingredients
- ½ cup unsweetened tomato passata or smooth tomato sauce
- ¼ cup low-sodium Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
- Zero-kcal sweetener, to taste, equivalent to approximately 2 tbsp sugar
- ½ tsp Dijon mustard
- ½ tsp garlic powder
- ½ tsp onion powder
- ¼ tsp ground ginger
- Pinch black pepper
- Water to thin, as needed
Method
- Add all ingredients to a blender.
- Blend until completely smooth.
- Transfer to a small pot and gently simmer for 5 to 8 minutes to deepen the flavour.
- Cool slightly before serving or storing.
